Gutman Library’s collection supports the research, teaching, and learning needs of the HGSE community.
All our collections are searchable in HOLLIS, alongside the collections of Harvard's 25 other libraries. Our subscription research databases can also be explored separately in the Harvard Library databases site.
Gutman Library collection includes books, journals, research databases, datasets, videos and more – in print, digital, and streaming formats. Primary disciplinary areas align with the HGSE curriculum, faculty research areas, and research center initiatives including educational administration and policy, elementary and secondary education, teachers and teaching, educational innovations, educational psychology, human development, language acquisition, and the history of education.

Special Collections
Spanning two centuries, Gutman Library Special Collections (GLSC) offers rich and varied resources for studying the history of schooling, teaching, and curriculum in the United States. Any interested user can make an appointment to use our collections.
Digital Reserves (Course Materials)
Gutman Library coordinates with faculty and teaching teams to provide students with access to course materials, including e-books, chapters, videos, and more, in all HGSE courses through the Library Reserves Tool in Canvas. HGSE community members can review our FAQs for support on how to request and access course materials.
Library of Things
Available to borrow at the Gutman Library Services Desk on the second floor. Within this collection you will find common laptop and phone chargers, HDMI cable adapters, light therapy lamps, whiteboard kits, laptop stands, and more. Theses and Pre-Thesis Research Papers
All HGSE doctoral candidates' papers are cataloged in HOLLIS. Select years are available in DASH and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global (Harvard Key required).
